Citizenship & Residency Brief: Thailand may reopen visa-free travel for Uzbek passport holders, but nothing is signed yet

Thailand is weighing a return to visa-free entry for Uzbek travellers. For anyone planning a Thai trip, the key point is timing: no change is in force yet, and the decision date is now days away.

Was: 60-day visa-free entry for Uzbek passport holders, until 15 September 2026, when Thailand narrowed its exemption list and Uzbek citizens lost both visa-free entry and visa on arrival. Now: a proposal for up to 15-day visa-free tourism stays, to be put to Thailand's Visa Policy Committee on 9 November. Effective: not yet, and no start date or final conditions have been announced.

The proposal, reported by Thai outlets and confirmed in outline by Uzbekistan's foreign ministry, is aimed at easing visa-processing delays that have hurt long-haul travel since September. It covers Uzbekistan alongside Mexico, Colombia and, in the latest version, Belarus, as part of a wider tourism plan targeting at least 4 trillion baht in revenue.

Treat any 30-day figure circulating in Uzbek reporting with caution: the proposal described by Thai officials is up to 15 days, shorter than the old 60-day terms, and it is for tourism stays only.

Who this suits: Uzbek passport holders planning a short Thai holiday or a stopover, and families weighing a winter trip. What to check before acting: do not book on the assumption of visa-free entry until the committee decision is published, and keep the current rule in mind, an advance visa applied for online before departure. If the 15-day version passes, it restores a door, not the old hallway: short trips get easier, longer stays still need a visa.
