Until now the route was largely for university students. A new loan scheme will cover travel and other costs for technical students going abroad to work and travel.
Why it matters: it opens a summer abroad to the students who train for trades, not just degrees. The loan removes the upfront cost barrier, but it is a loan, so students should weigh the repayments against the earnings before signing up.
