Kyrgyzstan has carried out its first leadless pacemaker implantation, at the Mirsaid Mirrakhimov National Center of Cardiology and Therapy in Bishkek, 24.kg reports.

The procedure was part of an international masterclass with French specialists, involving Health Minister Damir Osmonov and French professor Eloi Marijon. A leadless pacemaker is a miniature device implanted directly into the heart through a blood vessel, with no leads and no pocket under the skin, which the ministry says lowers complication and infection risk.

The ministry also signed a cooperation memorandum with Paris hospital group AP-HP, including internships for Kyrgyz doctors at French clinics.

Why it matters: for patients who cannot easily receive a conventional pacemaker, this is a new option at home, not abroad.
