Finance Brief: Gold's midterm jump, and the lira's round trip past 50

Gold jumped sharply after the US midterm results, and the Turkish lira spent the morning wrestling with the 50 mark. For savers in Türkiye and across the Turkic world, where gold is the household safety net, that combination is worth watching closely.

Spot gold reached about 4,016 dollars an ounce by 0619 GMT, up 2.2 percent on the day, Reuters reported, after a softer dollar followed the Democrats' midterm wins. By midday in Istanbul, gold was holding around 4,020 dollars, with the day's gain near 2.5 percent.

Brent crude was trading around 103 dollars a barrel, easing after Tuesday's sharp swings, as traders weighed conflicting signals on US-Iran talks. The lira crossed 50 to the dollar and then moved back below it in the same morning, with Report's morning table putting the rate at 50.02.

In Azerbaijan, the State Social Protection Fund's spending is forecast at 9.27 billion manat for 2027, Report said, a reminder that next year's budgets across the region are being drawn up against high oil prices and a softer dollar at the same time.

Levels to watch: gold at 4,000 dollars, Brent at 100 dollars, and the lira at 50. If the dollar stays soft, gold can hold its gains; if US-Iran talks cool further, oil easing would be relief for Türkiye's energy import bill. If talks break down, that relief reverses fast.
