Tashkent, Uzbekistan has held public hearings on the future of its railway station square, and the old Kopeyka monument will not be coming back.

The Mirabad district administration said the square will instead get a state flag and a fountain, with work planned along Shevchenko Street from Nukus Street to Turkiston, Podrobno reports.

Why it matters: the little monument was a city landmark people grew up with, so replacing it with a flag and fountain is a small but telling choice about what the new Tashkent wants to show off.
