Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said Russia's participation in the Organization of Turkic States would be entirely understandable and appropriate.

Moscow has not received an official invitation, Peskov said, but the issue will be on the agenda of Russia's relations with Kazakhstan and its friends in the organisation, AKIpress and APA report.

Peskov stressed any participation should involve the Russian Federation as a whole, not individual regions, pointing to Russia's Turkic peoples.

Why it matters: Kazakhstan's President Tokayev proposed at the October 30 Ankara summit that Russia join the OTS as a member or observer, and the Kremlin has now answered positively, opening a debate that could reshape the Turkic bloc.
