Türkiye's parliament is set to ratify a mutual defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan today, Reuters and Arab News report.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed in August, carries a collective defence clause: an attack on one is treated as an attack on all, mirroring NATO's Article 5. Ratification creates a formal mutual defence obligation toward Riyadh as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia mount.
Ratification alone does not send Turkish troops anywhere. Deploying forces would need a separate parliamentary mandate, which the ruling party is also expected to submit.
Why it matters: it turns months of quiet security cooperation into a written commitment, and it puts NATO's second largest army formally behind Saudi Arabia's defence, a signal aimed as much at Tehran and the Houthis as at anyone else.
