Kazakhstan's national oil company KazMunayGas holds 785 million tonnes of proven oil reserves, enough for more than 45 years of production at current rates, chairman Askhat Khassenov said.
He stressed that does not mean the oil runs out in 45 years: exploration keeps adding to the base, with new inflows booked as soon as they are found.
Why it matters: proven reserves are Kazakhstan's balance sheet in the ground, and the figure anchors Astana's long game: decades of oil income to fund the transition it keeps promising, not a cliff edge.
