A rare white-tailed eagle has been filmed over the Akzhaiyk reserve in Kazakhstan, soaring against a clear sky in footage shared by the Forestry and Wildlife Committee.
White-tailed eagles, among Europe and Asia's largest birds of prey, are a protected species in Kazakhstan, and a clean sighting like this is a small sign the reserve's wetlands are doing their job.
Why it matters: in a week of hard news, this is the clip people forward: a reminder that Kazakhstan's steppe and wetlands still hold wildlife most of the continent has lost.
