Finance Brief: Istanbul's rebound, gold back above 4,000, and oil sliding toward 100

Istanbul's stock market has bounced hard after a rough stretch, and gold is shining again while oil keeps slipping. For savers and businesses across the Turkic world, that mix changes what the week feels like: shares recovering, the safe haven bid returning, and cheaper fuel on the horizon.

The numbers behind the mood, for Wednesday, November 4, at the time of writing: the BIST 100 closed Tuesday at 11,023.55, according to Report.az's market indicators, then jumped 4.76 percent intraday on Wednesday to 11,548.07 in a Bloomberg HT snapshot. Gold stood at 3,950.50 dollars an ounce in Report.az's indicators, up 16 dollars, and spot gold traded around 4,035 dollars intraday, up about 2.9 percent. Brent crude was 102.80 dollars a barrel in the indicators, down 2.38 dollars, and traded around 99.78 dollars intraday, down about 3.6 percent. The lira stood at 50.0224 per dollar in the indicators, holding just above the round 50 level it crossed this week. In Uzbekistan, the som was set at 11,935.37 per dollar for November 5, and the central bank held its key rate at 14 percent despite falling inflation.

What to watch: whether Istanbul holds above 11,500 or gives the rebound back, which would say the move was relief rather than conviction; whether gold holds above 4,000 dollars, the level that tends to pull in household buyers in Türkiye and Uzbekistan; and whether Brent stays below 100 dollars, which eases Türkiye's import bill but trims what Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan earn. The read fails if US data later in the week revives the dollar and drags both shares and gold back down.
