The ministry said the report's claims, especially on political criteria, the judiciary and fundamental rights, reflect double standards and an inconsistent approach by some in the European Union. Ankara called the report another example of prejudiced treatment in the EU's annual enlargement package.
Why it matters: the report is the EU's yearly scorecard for candidate countries, and Ankara's sharp rejection shows the accession process is now argued in public, with little trust left on either side.
