US President Donald Trump is considering dismissing Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth after the heavy Republican defeat in the midterms, CBS News reported, though no decision has been made.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the job, according to the report.
Why it matters: a Pentagon chief's future is now tied to the same midterm verdict that put the Iran war at the centre of Republican politics, and any change would land in the middle of an ongoing war.
