Turkiye has unveiled its National Energy 2040 vision, a plan to get about 70% of its energy from renewable sources by 2040.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar presents the roadmap today in Istanbul. The plan calls for roughly $100 billion of investment in the power grid alone, and more than $300 billion across the energy sector, with solar and wind capacity rising past 120,000 megawatts.
The goal is energy independence: less money spent on imported oil and gas, more domestic generation, and a system built around electricity, from industry to transport. Turkiye is also preparing to host the COP31 climate summit in Antalya next week, so the timing is deliberate.
