Uzbekistan's central bank bought 7 tonnes of gold in September, as central banks around the world added 61 tonnes to their reserves, the highest monthly total this year.
Central banks are stocking up on gold while the dollar weakens and oil prices slide, and Tashkent is part of the trend: gold is both a reserve asset and one of Uzbekistan's own exports.
With gold trading near 4,130 dollars an ounce, the buying also looks well timed.
