The European Union and Uzbekistan have discussed expanding bilateral trade and making better use of the GSP+ scheme, which gives Uzbek goods preferential access to the European market.
Under GSP+, Uzbek exporters pay reduced tariffs in the EU in exchange for Uzbekistan's commitments on labour rights, governance and the environment.
For Tashkent, the scheme is a bridge to European markets that does not depend on Russia or China. The question is whether Uzbek producers can meet the standards and volumes to use it fully.
