Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to sharply expand flights between their capitals and biggest cities.

Permitted weekly flights on Tashkent-Almaty and Tashkent-Astana will rise to 60 each, and frequencies on other routes between the two countries will go from 14 to 20 a week.

A new direct link between Nukus, in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan region, and Atyrau, in western Kazakhstan, starts on November 29.

The two neighbours are the region's busiest air corridor, and the expansion is a practical step toward the closer integration both governments keep promising.
