A new public health emergency operations centre has opened in Nukus, the capital of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan, with US financial support and UNICEF technical help.
A similar centre opened in Termez in April, and the authorities plan more across the country.
The centres are designed to coordinate the response to outbreaks and health emergencies, a gap the pandemic exposed across Central Asia.
