Five Uyghur men who have spent more than 12 years locked up in Thailand now face being sent back to China. Two were freed from prison last month and now sit in a Bangkok immigration centre, and they have written letters begging not to be sent back. Thailand says China must file a formal extradition request first, and the men can fight it in court. Amnesty International says a return would put them at real risk of torture. Germany is deporting fewer people overall, but more of them are going to Türkiye. In the first nine months of this year 14,324 people were deported, down almost 19 percent on last year, yet 2,025 of them were sent to Türkiye, more than to any other country. (Daily Sabah, dpa)
