Kazakhstan is writing a new law to open up its capital market, after the market nearly doubled in five years.
The government reviewed a stock market development programme to 2030 and a draft capital markets law, designed to widen investment options for businesses and savers. Over the last five years, Kazakhstan's stock and bond market grew from 51.1 trillion tenge to 99.8 trillion, and the number of retail investor accounts passed five million.
The reform is part of Astana's push to channel more domestic savings into the economy, and to give Kazakh companies an alternative to bank loans and the state budget.
