Kyrgyzstan plans to raise the share of its land under protection to 30% by 2030.

The government is expanding the network of protected natural areas, which already covers some of the country's most striking landscapes, from the walnut forests of Arslanbob to the high pastures of the Tian Shan.

The target puts Kyrgyzstan in line with the global goal of protecting 30% of land and sea by 2030, and it matters for a country whose mountains and glaciers feed the rivers of Central Asia.
