Robot couriers are coming to Tashkent.
Yandex Lavka plans to start delivering groceries and ready meals with autonomous robots in Uzbekistan's capital before the end of the year. The robots will run routes of up to 2 km, recognise traffic lights, steer around obstacles and climb kerbs up to 10 cm high, with a remote operator stepping in when they get stuck.
Only the customer who ordered can open the robot, with a button in the app.
Yandex says the robots are too heavy and too hard to open without special tools to be worth vandalising. Tashkent will find out soon whether that holds.
