President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he will visit Azerbaijan on Sunday, November 8, for the country's Victory Day, as tensions between the two allies ease after weeks of strain.
Erdogan said ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan 'can overcome all obstacles.' The visit follows a rare public rift: President Ilham Aliyev skipped last week's Organization of Turkic States summit in Ankara, despite a personal invitation from Erdogan.
The strain began over Azerbaijan's new school uniform rules restricting Islamic headscarves, and criticism of the move from figures close to Erdogan's ruling party. Erdogan has since dismissed one of his advisers over the criticism, and Baku has warned against interference in its affairs.
November 8 marks the anniversary of Azerbaijan's victory in the Second Karabakh War. Erdogan's presence in Baku on the day is meant to show the 'one nation, two states' bond still holds.
