Ukraine's capital Kyiv has been hit by its worst power and water outage of the war, after days of Russian strikes on the country's energy grid.
Downtown Kyiv was left in near-total darkness on Thursday evening, with streetlights and buildings blacked out. The city's water utility said supplies were cut across most districts for more than a day, the longest water outage since the full-scale invasion began.
Russia has carried out 78 strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since Monday, according to Kyiv's energy ministry, knocking three thermal power plants offline. Kyiv's winter electricity demand is about 1,800 megawatts; local generation is now close to zero, according to energy analysts.
Emergency blackouts are in force across Kyiv and several other regions. Repair crews are working around the clock, but officials warn the grid remains fragile as winter sets in.
