Court orders arrest of former minister in Türkiye's fund probe
A court in Istanbul has ordered the arrest of former minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, in Türkiye's widening capital markets investigation.
Kaya, who served as family and social policies minister from 2016 to 2018, was referred to the judge on suspicion of violating the Capital Markets Law and membership in a criminal organisation. Prosecutors say she and her husband Ilyas traded on privileged information in shares of Ozata Denizcilik, turning a 163 million lira investment into about 2.1 billion lira in four months. The couple later returned the gains through a voluntary repayment scheme.
Her husband and the former head of the Capital Markets Board remain under judicial control, with travel bans and regular sign-in requirements. The probe now covers 217 suspects.
