Istanbul is hosting the Turkic world's cinema this week.
The 6th Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival opened on Tuesday at the historic Atlas 1948 Cinema, with the Kyrgyz film 'Aytmatov', about the life of writer Chingiz Aitmatov, as the opening screening.
Fifty-six films from 10 countries and 10 autonomous republics are screening free at five venues across the city until November 7, when the awards ceremony takes place at the Ataturk Cultural Center in Taksim. Thirty films compete in three categories, and the festival is also running a summit on co-productions between Turkic film industries.
The festival began in Istanbul in 2021 and has since travelled to Bursa, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan before returning to its founding city.
